A training session for Ukrainian Red Cross social helpers was held in Odesa
A two-day training on the Basics of Home Care for new social helpers was conducted by an experienced instructor and trainer from the Ternopil regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
Participants explored key topics essential to the day-to-day work of social helpers, including:
- the regulatory framework and the professional competencies required of social service providers;
- what palliative care is and why it is needed;
- the core components of quality palliative support for people receiving care.
The practical part of the course was the most dynamic. Social helpers practised essential care techniques, reviewed real-life cases involving older people and people with disabilities, and learned how to organise a service user’s living space, maintain good hygiene, prevent pressure sores, measure blood pressure and temperature, and calculate body mass index.
Upon completing the training, participants successfully passed their assessments. They are now ready to apply the knowledge and skills gained in their work, which will help improve the quality of support provided to those under their care.
We stand by those in need!
