Training for Mine Risk Specialists from 20 Regions of Ukraine

The Department of Humanitarian Access and Protection, in collaboration with the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Department, held a training session for mine risk specialists representing 20 regions of Ukraine.

The main objective was to strengthen participants’ practical skills in working with communities, including how to communicate effectively, gather and analyse feedback following information sessions, and, most importantly, adapt materials to the real needs of people in different regions, based on the data collected.

The training programme included lectures, teamwork, case studies, hands-on exercises, and discussions based on real-life field experiences. All of this aims to ensure that our engagement with communities remains sensitive, relevant, and impactful.

An important part of the event was the participation of a representative from the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, who shared statistics on civilian casualties caused by explosive hazards.

“Most civilian injuries resulting from contact with explosive devices occur in everyday situations — during scrap metal collection, agricultural work, or while in the forest. This is a clear signal that our messaging must be systematic, tailored, and as comprehensive as possible,” he emphasised.

We are continually improving our efforts to make the country safer.
