304 lonely people receive support from 54 social helpers of the Sumy regional branch
As part of the Ukrainian Red Cross Home-Based Care programme in the Sumy region, 304 lonely people receive support from 54 social helpers of the Sumy regional branch. These helpers provide social services and care in 40 towns and villages across various districts of the region.
Home-based care is a vital form of assistance for lonely individuals who, due to health conditions, require external support in their daily lives, including maintaining personal hygiene and meeting basic needs. Some people are housebound, some are bedridden, and some are unable to eat independently. In this way, the social helpers of the Ukrainian Red Cross offer essential support to this vulnerable population.
They provide assistance with:
- Household chores: cleaning, cooking, and changing bed linen.
- Addressing social issues: accompanying individuals to medical appointments and helping with utility payments, among other tasks.
- Purchasing and delivery of food, water, and other essential items.
- Hygiene services.
Most importantly, they communicate with and emotionally support their beneficiaries, which is crucial for lonely elderly people during these challenging times for the country.
The Home-Based Care programme is implemented in the Sumy region with the support of the Swedish Red Cross.
