The Ukrainian Red Cross Representatives Join ″Housing for Internally Displaced Persons″ Forum Dialogue
On May 15, 2024, a forum was held in the Zakarpattia region to discuss problems and solutions related to housing for internally displaced persons. The event was attended by representatives of the Government, including Oksana Zholnovych, Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine, representatives of communities and relevant agencies, as well as international organisations such as the UN, IOM, Caritas, and other Ukrainian organisations.
In her speech, Vice President of the Ukrainian Red Cross, Ivanna Sabo, emphasised that in Ukraine today, thanks to donors and partners, the Ukrainian Red Cross is implementing several housing projects for those left homeless while fleeing to save their lives. Last year, in Chernihiv, 112 families received keys to apartments in a modular town. Additionally, work is underway to build housing for IDPs in the Zakarpattia, Zhytomyr, and Chernivtsi regions.
It is worth noting that reconstruction is currently one of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s priority areas of activity. In addition to providing shelters, reconstructing medical facilities, and establishing rehabilitation centres, the Ukrainian Red Cross is involved in restoring households damaged by the war.
