Role and Activities
Since their establishment on 1 December 2013, the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams have played a key role in assisting people during emergencies and crises. Today, they form an extensive network comprising 24 teams across the country and more than 685 volunteers ready for rapid deployment.
The teams ensure rapid response to emergencies by providing first aid and psychological first aid, evacuating affected people, supporting emergency services, and delivering humanitarian assistance.

No. We do not provide injections or medication. First (pre-medical) aid is only a small part of our work.
We support disaster preparedness and risk reduction efforts, provide assistance at mass gatherings, evacuate people from emergencies, support emergency services such as firefighters and police, and establish warming centres and temporary shelter sites for people displaced by crises, among other activities.
We provide first aid to anyone affected, regardless of their affiliation. Neutrality and impartiality are core principles that guide our work, alongside respect for humanitarian values, without consideration of political, religious, or other distinctions.
No. All members of the emergency response teams are volunteers who support people in their free time, alongside their work and personal commitments. Our motivation is to help people in difficult situations, not to earn money.
Yes. Anyone over 18 who has completed the required training and shares the principles of the Red Cross can become a volunteer.
While we do not have centralised funding, we rely on donations to purchase equipment and cover transportation and logistics costs. Learn more here.

Skhid (East) Mission
The mission focuses on providing assistance to people living in frontline areas and affected by the war. It is carried out by volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response teams.
Key Tasks of the Skhid Mission:
- Evacuation of children, women, people with limited mobility, older people, injured people, and others in need of assistance
- Evacuation and interfacility transportation of injured and ill patients, including injured and ill combatants, in accordance with international humanitarian law
- Providing first aid in accordance with Order No. 441 of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine
- Distribution, transportation, and delivery of humanitarian aid
- Supporting local emergency response teams
International Experience
Emergency response teams operate across the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network, including through Regional Disaster Response Teams (RDRT). The Ukrainian Red Cross works closely with international partners to exchange expertise and enhance response standards.
