11 Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units now provide medical care in remote communities of the Odesa region
Access to primary healthcare for residents of remote communities in the Odesa region is being expanded. Within the framework of cooperation between the Ukrainian Red Cross and the Odesa Regional Military Administration, four additional mobile health units have begun operations. There are now 11 such units working across the region.
The new units will serve communities in the Podilskyi, Bolhradskyi, and Izmailskyi districts, where access to medical services is often limited due to remoteness or insufficient healthcare infrastructure.
To support their work, four additional specialised vehicles have been provided to healthcare facilities in the region.
“This initiative aims to ensure adequate primary healthcare services for residents of the most remote communities in the Odesa region, where access to medical services is limited or non-existent. As part of this large-scale project, four new specialised vehicles have been provided to regional healthcare facilities to support mobile health units.” — Stanislav Borodin, Head of MHU, Ukrainian Red Cross.
Mobile health units consist of family doctors, nurses, paramedics, and drivers from primary healthcare centres of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
The units provide a wide range of medical services to local residents and internally displaced persons, including:
- measuring blood pressure and blood glucose levels
- general medical examinations
- provision of essential over-the-counter medicines for initial treatment when needed
- referrals to specialist doctors and, in urgent cases, transport to healthcare facilities
The activities of mobile health units in the Odesa region are supported by the U.S. and the German Red Cross, enabling timely medical assistance for people living in areas with limited access to healthcare facilities.
We stand by those in need.
