Kharkiv: Yesterday and today, the emergency response team of the Ukrainian Red Cross in the Kharkiv region has been working at sites responding to the aftermath of a recent attack on the city
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU), Russian forces carried out a drone strike on Kharkiv this Sunday. Preliminary reports indicate that six people were injured, including an infant. A cultural and historical heritage site — the Kharkiv Art Museum building — was also damaged.
Across all response sites in the two affected districts of the city — Kyivskyi and Kholodnohirskyi — the Ukrainian Red Cross team worked alongside other emergency services. Volunteers conducted door-to-door checks of damaged buildings and surrounding areas, provided first aid and psychological first aid to affected people, and supported efforts to protect cultural heritage.
Kharkiv also came under further Russian attack during the night. At all locations, Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers worked alongside other services, carrying out assessments of surrounding areas and damaged residential buildings. They provided first aid to injured people and psychological first aid to individuals experiencing acute stress reactions.
A Ukrainian Red Cross relief point is currently operating at one of the sites, offering drinking water, tea and coffee, snacks, and psychological support. Humanitarian relief items are also being distributed, including drinking water, hygiene and sleeping kits, blankets, and other essential items.
According to Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, four SESU responders and one civil protection specialist from the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration were killed during the Russian night attack on Kharkiv. They were working at the site of an earlier strike when a second strike occurred. Civilians were also injured. Civilian enterprises and residential buildings were damaged.
