Zakhar Sakhnenko, Sumy: “I have the opportunity to help people, and not doing so would be wrong”
Zakhar is a medical student who combines his studies with creativity and volunteering. He writes poetry, does translation and voice-over work, and also helps people and animals.
Zakhar joined the Ukrainian Red Cross almost a year ago, after attending a presentation by the organisation at his university. “They spoke about their work, and that’s when I realised I wanted to be part of this community,” he recalls.
Today, Zakhar takes part in youth activities focused on humanistic education, supports animal-welfare volunteers, and helps with community clean-ups. “I have the opportunity to help people, and not doing so would be wrong,” he says.
What he remembers most are the training trips — the new people, places, experiences, and the memories made on each journey.
