In the Chernihiv region, an event entitled “Communication with Veterans” was held at the regional branch of the State Institution “Probation Centre”, with the participation of the Ukrainian Red Cross
The main objective was to strengthen the professional capacity of probation staff, enhance their skills in supportive engagement, and reinforce inter-agency cooperation.
Participants included staff of the regional branch, as well as representatives of the Desnianskyi, Novozavodskyi and Chernihiv district probation units. A trainer from the Physical and Mental Rehabilitation Programme of the Chernihiv regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross delivered a session covering:
- key aspects of effective engagement with veterans;
- the importance of sensitive and trauma-informed communication;
- understanding the psychological condition of individuals with combat experience;
- creating a safe and supportive environment.
Participants also discussed principles of trust-based communication, responding to stress reactions and post-traumatic manifestations, preventing stigmatisation and using appropriate terminology, as well as action steps for managing complex emotional situations.
Such initiatives contribute to strengthening partnerships between public institutions and the Ukrainian Red Cross in service delivery, while also fostering public trust.
