Supporting IDP Families with Pets

After the full-scale invasion, the Batiuk family — like many others in Ukraine — had to start their lives from scratch. Together with their ten children, three of whom are fostered, they moved from the Donetsk region to Cherkasy. At the time, Yana was pregnant. Despite all the challenges of relocation, the family didn’t leave their pets behind — they brought along their big dog and three cats. And the number of their four-legged friends keeps growing!

“Today we already have six cats — the children always find someone in need and bring home. Over the past three years, I’ve received support from the Ukrainian Red Cross many times — dry food for our cats and dogs. Our pets absolutely love it. We’re truly grateful,” says Yana Batiuk.

The programme supporting internally displaced families with pets is made possible through cooperation with Humane World for Animals.
