The Ukrainian Red Cross at the “Unity! Resilience! Strength!” Forum
On 4 December in Lviv, the Ukrainian Red Cross Physical and Mental Rehabilitation team participated in a panel discussion titled “Medical Care and Rehabilitation through Volunteering” as part of the “International Volunteer Day: Unity! Resilience! Strength!” forum.
This forum has become a key platform for addressing the challenges and opportunities of volunteer development in Ukraine, especially during times of war. The event brought together representatives from NGOs, government, business, IT, medicine, and agriculture to share experiences and develop strategies to further support volunteer initiatives.
During the panel discussion, the Ukrainian Red Cross team shared their experience in operating mobile rehabilitation units, which provide physical rehabilitation services directly within communities.
“Our work is not only about physical rehabilitation; it’s also about restoring people’s dignity, confidence, and ability to live a full life. In fact, we provide assistance right where people live, which makes this work exceptional in the current circumstances,” stated Yelyzaveta Moroz, a leading specialist in the mobile rehabilitation units.
Currently, 25 project specialists visit communities across eight regions of Ukraine every day. They work as part of mobile rehabilitation units, which include a physical therapist, a physical therapist’s assistant, and a driver.
In addition, the following topics were discussed at the forum:
- Volunteering during the war.
- Partnership between the state and volunteer organisations.
- The role of business in supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the rehabilitation of veterans.
- Organisation of medical care for the injured.
Together, we continue to work towards supporting communities and rebuilding Ukraine!
