124 Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units have provided more than 1,030,000 services since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine
The Ukrainian Red Cross Mobile Health Units (MHUs) were established as mobile medical teams to assist people living in areas most affected by hostilities or with limited access to medical services. The operation of mobile health units in the western and central regions of Ukraine, where the number of internally displaced persons has significantly increased since February 2022, has also expanded.
As of the end of 2024, the Ukrainian Red Cross has established 124 mobile health units operating across 23 regions of Ukraine.
“This number of mobile health units allows us to provide more than 1,500 appointments per day,” said Oleksandr Babenko, Head of the Health and Social Care Department of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
Over the three years of the full-scale invasion, the mobile health units have delivered more than 1,030,644 medical consultations, helping Ukrainians in need.
It is important to note that the Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units are not a regular medical service. Their mission is to provide temporary operational assistance to the state by strengthening primary healthcare institutions and offering medical services to local populations, particularly those affected by military operations.
The mobile health units are staffed by family doctors, mid-level medical practitioners, nurses, and drivers from Ukrainian Red Cross primary healthcare centres. The chief doctors of primary healthcare centres determine the schedules and routes of the mobile health units based on requests and the communities’ current needs. The staff of rural outpatient clinics and paramedic stations inform residents in advance about the day and time of arrival of the nearest mobile health unit.
We stand by those in need!
