The Ukrainian Red Cross held an online webinar to train more than 420 staff members of the UNESCO Office in Ukraine in psychological first aid

The event was organised in cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Ukraine and the Community of Modern Teachers and Psychologists as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the skills of professionals who work with people every day. The webinar brought together teachers, teaching assistants, psychologists working in educational settings, social educators, representatives of inclusive resource centres, students, and staff from higher education institutions and pre-school educational settings.

During the training, participants learned how people may react to crisis events and explored the three key principles of psychological first aid: ‘Look, Listen, Link’. They also learned ways to maintain their own well-being and use self-help techniques.
The webinar was delivered by specialists from the Ukrainian Red Cross Mental Health and Psychosocial Support team. Participants discussed key topics and worked through practical examples to better understand how to support people in crisis situations.

Cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Ukraine helps promote psychological first aid skills among professionals who interact with people every day. This enables them to recognise when someone may need support, respond to crisis situations and, where necessary, refer people to appropriate specialists.
