The Ukrainian Red Cross teaches children in Zaporizhzhia region how to respond to emergencies
The Ukrainian Red Cross held an information session for children in Shyroke community, Zaporizhzhia region, focusing on emergency preparedness. During the session, children learned basic safety rules, the importance of preparing in advance for potential hazards, and how to respond correctly in an emergency.
Particular attention was paid to recognising potentially dangerous situations, understanding why it is important to follow safety rules and knowing whom to contact for help in the event of a threat. The children also discussed how being prepared in advance can help reduce risks and make them feel more confident when faced with unexpected situations.
Activities like these help foster a culture of safety from an early age, raise children’s awareness of potential risks and develop the skills they need to respond in dangerous situations.
The information session was held as part of the SYLA project, implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross in partnership with the Danish Red Cross, the German Red Cross, ACTED and IMPACT, with financial support from the European Union. The project aims to strengthen communities’ emergency preparedness and early response capacity.
