More than 70 education professionals from 11 regions of Ukraine take part in a three-day training course delivered by the Ukrainian Red Cross

The second large-scale training course for teachers to be held this year took place in Lviv. It brought together educators who work every day to help keep children safe.

Over the course of three days, participants developed practical skills in first aid and psychological first aid, and took part in mine risk education sessions.

“Teachers work directly with children every day, and these children may be at risk of finding themselves in emergency situations. It is important to us that teachers have practical first aid and psychological first aid skills. Another key part of the training is introducing educators to the School Safety Sessions project, which aims to foster a culture of safe behaviour among children in a country at war,” explains Alona Radionova, Head of the Disaster Risk Reduction Unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
Participants were selected in cooperation with regional education departments, with a focus on teachers who are committed to strengthening safety education in their schools.

The training is one of the key activities under the School Safety Sessions project, which is being implemented in 11 regions of Ukraine: Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Ternopil, Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Lviv, Chernivtsi and Kharkiv. The project is supported by the British Red Cross and the German Red Cross.

As part of the same project, the Ukrainian Red Cross, in cooperation with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the Juvenile Prevention Unit of the National Police of Ukraine, is piloting the establishment of seven safety classrooms. Two modern learning spaces are being set up in each of the following cities: Cherkasy, Lutsk and Ternopil, with one additional space located directly inside a shelter in Zhytomyr.

We provide training to protect what matters most – children’s lives and health!
