Cooperation strengthened in Dnipro region to support families of missing persons and people held in captivity

On 6 and 8 October, coordination meetings were held in Kryvyi Rih for families of missing persons and those whose loved ones are or may be held in captivity. A total of 145 people took part in the meetings.

The meetings were organised by the Kryvyi Rih city branch of the Dnipro regional organisation of the Ukrainian Red Cross, with the participation of representatives of relevant institutions and humanitarian organisations. These included the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centres, the Pension Fund of Ukraine, and the Dnipropetrovsk Scientific Research Forensic Centre of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The aim of the meetings was to provide families with up-to-date information on available support mechanisms, ways to search for their loved ones, and the next steps in engaging with the relevant organisations.

During the meetings, participants learned about the work of the institutions involved, how to seek assistance, how to obtain the necessary documents, and what consultations were available. Particular attention was given to the Ukrainian Red Cross Restoring Family Links service, which helps families search for missing loved ones and maintain contact between family members.

Following the information sessions, participants had the opportunity to ask questions, discuss challenging situations and receive individual consultations. Families’ individual requests were recorded for further follow-up and the provision of relevant information.

During the meeting on 6 October, participants moved to a shelter after an air raid alert was announced, where they continued speaking with representatives of the institutions.

These meetings provide an opportunity for open dialogue, help families better understand the support mechanisms available to them, and foster cooperation between people searching for their loved ones, humanitarian organisations and relevant institutions.

Requests will continue to be processed, and follow-up with families will remain ongoing. Further coordination meetings for families of missing persons and people held in captivity are planned.
