The threat posed by mines remains a concern in many regions of Ukraine. Timely marking of areas where there may be a risk of explosive ordnance is an important part of keeping people safe.

With the support of the Odesa regional branch, the Mine Action Unit of the Civil Protection and Emergency Response Programme Development Department of the Ukrainian Red Cross has handed over 12,746 ‘Danger: Mines’ warning signs to a border guard unit to mark potentially contaminated areas in the Odesa region.

The warning signs help draw people’s attention to potential hazards, remind them not to enter dangerous areas or approach suspicious objects, and urge them to follow safety guidelines.

Ukrainian Red Cross specialists conduct information and awareness-raising activities across Ukraine for children and adults, teaching them how to stay safe when they encounter explosive ordnance.

The warning signs were provided with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the United States (U.S. Department of State) as part of the Multisectoral Emergency Response Programme.

We are working together to ensure that people are aware of the risks, can recognise potential hazards, and know how to stay safe.
