Veteran reintegration in Ukraine is one of the key challenges of our time
After returning from the war, veterans need not only to adapt to civilian life but also to navigate a wide range of everyday issues — from accessing essential services and rehabilitation to finding employment and returning to an active role in community life.
The Vinnytsia city branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross, together with specialists from the Supporting the Reintegration of Veterans in Ukraine and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support projects, the leadership of the Turbiv community, and with the support of the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House, held an event as part of the Side by Side Camp for Young Veterans project.
The event provided a space for veterans to connect with one another and with specialists from different fields. Participants discussed employment opportunities, access to services, and ways to address important everyday issues. They also had an opportunity to enjoy nature, go fishing, and play chess, volleyball, and tennis.
Meetings like these are important not only because they provide access to information and support. They also help people rebuild social connections, feel supported, and know that after returning from the war, there are people and organisations they can turn to for help.
It is important to understand that veteran reintegration is a shared responsibility. The more opportunities veterans have, the easier it is for them to return to active and fulfilling lives.
We thank the leadership of the Turbiv community and all the partners who contributed to the event and continue working to create an environment where veterans and their families can access the support they need.
