Official Statement from the Ukrainian Red Cross

Following media reports concerning the detention of an employee of the Ukrainian Red Cross, we would like to clarify the following.

The employee in question is the Head of the Podilskyi district branch of the Kyiv city organisation of the Ukrainian Red Cross. It is important to note that the district branch does not have the status of a critical infrastructure organisation and, therefore, its employees are not eligible for a mobilisation deferment on this basis.

At the time of the reported incident, the employee was on official leave. The detention is unrelated to her work for, or the activities of, the Ukrainian Red Cross.

The Ukrainian Red Cross has zero tolerance for corruption and any form of unlawful conduct. The use of an employee’s position or status within the organisation for personal gain or unlawful purposes is unacceptable and contrary to the principles and internal regulations of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

An internal investigation is under way, and the necessary procedures are being initiated to suspend the employee from her duties.
