Ukrainian Red Cross Community Center Officially Opens in Irshava
The Community Center is an open space for community members where they can receive essential support and assistance, as well as access opportunities for learning, personal development, and active participation in community life. It provides a welcoming environment for social interaction, educational activities, and awareness-raising initiatives that help strengthen social cohesion and community development.
The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross, the Zakarpattia regional branch, the Ukrainian Red Cross Community Center in Uzhhorod, local authorities, as well as partners and friends of the organisation who work closely with this important community initiative.
“One of the core values of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s updated strategy is a people-centred approach. This principle shapes the role of our Community Centers. Their primary purpose is to help people meet their needs comprehensively by providing not only Ukrainian Red Cross services but also access to opportunities available within their communities.
We are grateful to the Irshava territorial community for providing the premises for the Community Center, and to our partners — the Austrian Red Cross and the Finnish Red Cross — who support the work of six Community Centers across Ukraine. Today, 14 Community Centers are already operating across the country, and we plan to expand this network to around 42 to 44 in the future,” said Kateryna Bielievtsova, Head of the Community Centers Development Sector within the Organisational Development Department of the National Committee of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
The following services are available at the Ukrainian Red Cross Community Center in Irshava:
- Social counselling — help with navigating available services and assistance programmes
- Psychosocial support activities for children and adults
- First aid training and awareness-raising activities
- Group activities — a space for communication, learning, and mutual support
In addition, the Community Center includes a youth space and hosts initiatives focused on volunteer development and humanistic education.
Visitors can also access an assistive devices lending service, a clothing bank, and a social canteen, as well as receive support from social assistants.
The Community Center also features an interactive learning space where computer literacy courses and other educational activities are offered to local residents.
