The Ukrainian Red Cross participated in the Ukrainian Culture Security Forum 2.0 in Warsaw
The event brought together around 180 museum professionals, researchers, cultural heritage experts, policymakers, and representatives of public institutions from Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, France, and Sweden. The two-day forum, organised by the OBMIN Foundation in cooperation with Ukrainian, Polish, and German governmental and non-governmental organisations, focused on the link between cultural heritage preservation and national security, as well as the challenges of protecting cultural property in contemporary armed conflicts.
A representative of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross took part in the event. During her presentation, she highlighted the importance of respecting the rules of IHL, which provide for the protection of cultural property under the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its Protocols.
The participation of the Ukrainian Red Cross in the forum underscored the importance of incorporating international humanitarian law into discussions on cultural security, the protection of cultural heritage, and responses to threats arising from armed conflicts.
