In Rozhyshche, Volyn region, a public event “Without Barriers: Practising Respect” was held, focused on developing inclusive communication with people with disabilities

The event took place as part of the advocacy campaign “Equal Space: From Communication Culture to Accessibility Standards.”

A specialist from the Physical Rehabilitation and Social Adaptation programme of the Volyn regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross led a session on “Communicating with People with Disabilities.” Participants included community members, among them people with disabilities, youth, veterans, and representatives of local authorities. They had the opportunity to learn the principles of respectful communication and practice practical skills, such as:

  • safely assisting people who use wheelchairs;
  • interacting with people who are deaf or hard of hearing;
  • guiding visually impaired people indoors.

The event provided a platform for dialogue and exchange of experience, and represented another step toward creating a barrier-free and accessible environment in the community.

We act together to ensure that respect, equality, and accessibility become part of everyday life!
