The Ukrainian Red Cross responded to shelling in the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions

Emergency response teams of the Ukrainian Red Cross swiftly reacted to the aftermath of recent attacks in the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.

  • Mykolaivka, Donetsk region

On 20 March, the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team in the Donetsk region provided assistance at sites affected by multiple strikes. During one operation, volunteers managed to free a woman trapped under the debris of a destroyed house. She was handed over to medical staff and transported to the hospital. Volunteers also delivered materials to cover damage in homes and public facilities.

According to the Donetsk Regional Police, Mykolaivka was shelled four times by Russian forces, resulting in five local residents being injured. Damage was reported to three apartment buildings, two private houses, an educational facility, an administrative building, and a medical facility.

  • Zaporizhzhia

Today, the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team volunteers in the Zaporizhzhia region worked on-site alongside emergency services and medical teams. Volunteers conducted door-to-door checks to identify those injured, provided first aid, and offered psychological support to people experiencing acute stress reactions.

According to the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, a morning strike by a Russian drone destroyed a private house. Two people were killed, and at least six were injured.

Despite ongoing danger, shelling, and difficult conditions, our teams continue to remain by the side of affected communities.
