Supporting Those in Extreme Hardship: The Story of Anastasiia’s Family

Anastasiia and her family were forced to flee their home in the Izium district of the Kharkiv region. The family has five children, one of whom requires constant care. As a result, Anastasiia and her husband devote most of their time to caring for them. The family has no gas supply and relies on a wood-burning stove for heating.

To support families during the winter months, the Ukrainian Red Cross, with support from the British Red Cross, implemented a winter cash assistance programme to help residents of frontline areas purchase solid fuel.

For this family, the assistance is more than financial support — it is an opportunity to get through the cold season in warmth, maintaining safety and stability for their children. This kind of targeted support becomes a vital lifeline for those facing difficult circumstances.
