Ukrainian Red Cross Takes Part in Flood Response Command-and-Staff Exercises in Zakarpattia

Recently, the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team in the Zakarpattia region took part in large-scale command-and-staff exercises alongside the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Zakarpattia, local authorities, and other services. The main goal of the exercises was to ensure coordinated cooperation among all services and a clear understanding of each participant’s role in the event of a real emergency.

The exercise scenario involved a complex flood situation in the Berehiv district, including household flooding, evacuation of residents, and provision of assistance to those affected. On the Batar River, teams practised several potential developments of the emergency, ranging from localised incidents to regional-level crises.

During the exercises, our volunteers and staff practised response protocols, supporting evacuated residents, providing first aid, and coordinating actions with other services under crisis conditions.

Such exercises are an important part of preparing communities for potential floods. Timely and coordinated responses help minimise the impact of natural disasters and save lives.
