The Ukrainian Red Cross has provided 35 generators to strengthen the social protection system for veterans

Today, the Ukrainian Red Cross, in cooperation with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, delivered 35 generators to social institutions across the regions that work with war veterans and their family members.

“It is important for the Ukrainian Red Cross to contribute to initiatives that have a tangible impact in strengthening the social protection system for war veterans and their families. The transfer of 35 generators today is our joint response to the challenges caused by ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure. For us, it is essential that assistance is not only timely but also effective. Ensuring reliable backup power supports the stable operation of institutions that work with veterans and their families every day,” said Maksym Zatserkovnyi, Adviser to the Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

The equipment is intended to strengthen the capacity and ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the social protection system for veterans. In particular, it will support specialists who provide administrative and social services to war veterans and their family members, as well as ensure continued access to psychological and rehabilitation support in conditions of energy instability.

“For the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, the key priority is to ensure that veterans — both men and women — are not left alone with their concerns, especially in times of crisis. Case managers and representatives of veterans’ policy departments remain in daily contact with them: helping them navigate available services, supporting them in situations requiring urgent hospitalisation, psychological assistance or rehabilitation, and staying present when it is simply important that someone answers the phone. The generators provided are about continuity of this support — ensuring that contact is maintained and assistance can continue regardless of energy-related challenges. We are grateful to our partners for their solidarity and shared responsibility towards veterans and their families,” emphasised Nataliia Kalmykova, Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine.

The generators were provided to the Ukrainian Red Cross by international partners: 33 units from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and two from the Polish Red Cross. This assistance reflects joint efforts and international solidarity aimed at strengthening the social protection system for veterans during a challenging period for the country.

Supporting war veterans and their family members is one of the priority areas of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s work. In coordination with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine and with the support of international partners, the Ukrainian Red Cross will continue to be a reliable partner of the state in strengthening the capacity of the social protection system for veterans.
