The Ukrainian Red Cross Takes Part in Discussion on Inclusion and Mental Health at the Richelieu Public Service Forum

From 24 to 26 September, the National Agency of Ukraine on Civil Service (NAUCS) held the Richelieu Public Service Forum under the theme “Human Rights in Ukraine: Optics of Change.” One of the key sessions was a panel discussion titled “Inclusion Starts with Each of Us,” which featured Kateryna Kryklia, Head of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Department at the Ukrainian Red Cross.

In her remarks, she emphasised that mental health is a vital resource — without it, it is impossible to effectively support others, including civil servants, healthcare workers, social workers, and volunteers.

“Inclusion begins with small steps taken by each of us, and together they help build a culture of safe, inclusive, and supportive work environments,” said Kateryna Kryklia.

She shared the Ukrainian Red Cross’s practical experience in developing a support system for staff and volunteers. This system combines organisational, team-based, and individual approaches — such as psychological counselling, leadership training, a buddy system, the creation of safe spaces, and the use of self-help techniques to cope with stress. Particular attention was given to practical exercises and resource-based methods that help professionals maintain psychological resilience in their work.

The Forum brought together representatives of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament), the President’s Office, the Cabinet of Ministers, state authorities, and local governments, as well as academics, international experts, and development partners.

During the event, NAUCS and the Ukrainian Red Cross signed a Memorandum of Partnership, outlining their joint commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for public service employees. служби.
