Ukrainian Red Cross Vehicle Damaged by Shelling in Kherson Region
On the evening of 9 August, at around 22:00, Russian forces launched intensive artillery shelling on Kherson, targeting the Ostriv (Korabel) district, from where a mass evacuation of civilians is currently underway.
At approximately 23:10, another attack took place near the Ukrainian Red Cross emergency response team’s location in the Kherson region. The strike damaged a Toyota Land Cruiser used by volunteers for evacuations, delivering humanitarian aid, and other essential tasks within the combat zone.
At the time, a group of volunteers was inside the building, prepared to respond swiftly to emergencies — from assisting ambulance crews to carrying out emergency evacuations. All were safely sheltered and remained unharmed.
We strongly condemn the shelling of civilian infrastructure and vehicles clearly marked with the Red Cross emblem. Such attacks constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
Despite the ongoing danger and daily shelling, Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers remain committed to their mission: helping civilians, saving lives, and supporting those in need.
