Ukrainian Red Cross Mobile Rehabilitation Units Begin Operating in the Odesa Region
Since July, residents of the Odesa region in need of rehabilitation services can now receive support in their own homes. Mobile rehabilitation units (MRUs) have started operating in the region, with residents of the Fontanka community being the first to benefit.
MRU specialists assist individuals in regaining motor function and improving their physical or emotional well-being — particularly following injury, trauma, illness, surgery, limb loss, or joint replacement. During home visits, a physical therapist and an assistant:
- assess the person’s physical condition and develop an individual rehabilitation plan;
- carry out rehabilitation sessions tailored to the person’s recovery prospects;
- provide rehabilitation aids (such as walking frames, canes, crutches, wheelchairs) where needed;
- assess the home environment and offer recommendations for improvement.
How to Access Support?
Rehabilitation services can be accessed through a referral from a family doctor, another medical professional, a healthcare institution, a social service, or volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross. You can also contact the Ukrainian Red Cross directly by calling the hotline at 0 800 332 656, or the project phone number for the Odesa region at +380 66 242 68 44.
By the end of 2025, Ukrainian Red Cross mobile rehabilitation units will also begin operating in the Kharkiv region. In total, the project will be active in 13 regions of Ukraine this year.
We remain committed to making community-based rehabilitation more accessible!
