Support that Unites: Ukrainian Red Cross Team Meets Families of Missing Persons in Khmelnytskyi

The youth space at the Khmelnytskyi regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross recently hosted a meeting with families of missing persons who had opened a search case with the organisation. Organised by the Tracing Service team, the event aimed to support those enduring the uncertainty of waiting for news about their loved ones.

The gathering took place in a warm, compassionate atmosphere where participants could connect, share their ongoing pain, and find mutual support. The programme included an informative session and a discussion on Ambiguous Loss, providing a space to explore sensitive topics and address pressing questions. Families also exchanged experiences and practical advice, fostering a powerful network of support. The event concluded with a Drawing with Coffee art class, offering participants a creative outlet to express their emotions.

Key outcomes from the event included:

  • Creation of a group chat to facilitate ongoing communication and mutual support.
  • A request for psychosocial support on behalf of one participant.
  • Humanitarian aid, including clothing (with support from the Danish Red Cross) and anti-stress toys for children.

Several participants expressed a strong desire to get involved in organising future events to support others in similar situations. Ultimately, the meeting served as a meaningful opportunity to address important questions while offering a space for unity, shared experiences, and hope. The Ukrainian Red Cross team remains committed to standing by those who are waiting — listening, supporting, and helping every step of the way.
