The Day of Social Workers
Every day, nearly 1,300 social helpers from the Ukrainian Red Cross Home-Based Care programme support their beneficiaries across the country in their daily activities. These beneficiaries include lonely older people and individuals with disabilities who struggle to care for themselves.
Social helpers assist with household chores such as cleaning, cooking, and changing bed linen. They accompany beneficiaries to medical appointments, buy and deliver food, water, and other essential goods, help with utility bills, and take walks together. Additionally, they provide hygiene services, as well as communication and emotional support, which is particularly important for lonely older people during challenging times in the country.
Furthermore, the Ukrainian Red Cross actively collaborates with the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine. Recently, a Memorandum was signed to introduce new social services and develop psychosocial support programmes throughout the country.
Congratulations to all social workers on their professional holiday!
