The Ukrainian Red Cross informs schoolchildren about appropriate behaviour when detecting mines
In the city of Irpin, the Ukrainian Red Cross, with the support of the Italian Red Cross, held a mine action lecture for fifth-grade students at the Lyceum “Linguist,” named after Zarifa Aliyeva.
During the event, specialists from the Ukrainian Red Cross showcased 3D models of mines and explosive devices, explained their threats, and highlighted the importance of appropriate behaviour when encountering them. Representatives from the Italian Red Cross participated in the session, emphasising the significance of global support for such initiatives.
“International cooperation greatly strengthens our activities aimed at protecting young people,” said Svitlana Avramenko, Head of the Humanitarian Access and Protection Department and Advisor to the Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross.
During the information session, the students learned how to act in case of danger: they should not panic, avoid touching dangerous objects, and immediately inform an adult or call emergency services. Finally, the students consolidated their knowledge by creating drawings on the topic of safety.
The event, organised by the Ukrainian Red Cross, was another step towards protecting children from potential risks during the war. We stand by those in need!
