One hundred and seventy-five tonnes of dry pet food have been provided to internally displaced persons

Today, 4 October, is World Animal Day. Throughout the war, pets in Ukraine have faced immense challenges, just like their owners.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian Red Cross, in collaboration with the animal protection organisation HSI Europe, has been providing ongoing assistance to pets whose owners have fled their homes due to the war.

Thanks to our joint efforts, this year we have supported:

  • 35,000 cats and dogs,
  • 16,000 internally displaced pet owners,
  • 16 regions of Ukraine participating in the programme.

As a result, our volunteers have delivered:

  • 175 tonnes of dry pet food,
  • 1,390 pet carriers,
  • 7,510 packs of flea and tick treatment.

We sincerely thank every pet owner who, despite the risks and challenges, chose not to leave their companions to fend for themselves.
