Four hundred sixty-four employees and volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross across 20 regions have already received basic knowledge of the principles of community engagement and accountability
Since September 2023, 464 staff and volunteers from regional and local branches of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society have undergone training in the “Introduction to Community Engagement and Accountability.” This training aims to ensure more systematic and active engagement with the affected population.
The training participants gained basic knowledge of the principles of community engagement and accountability (CEA) and learned how to implement CEA at all stages of the programme cycle. In addition, during the self-assessment, part of the training process, participants identified the steps already taken and outlined the next steps for integrating community engagement approaches into local programmes and projects.
In total, the Community Engagement and Accountability Unit has covered 20 regions: Volyn, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Donetsk, Dnipro, Odesa, Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia, Ternopil, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Rivne, and Kyiv. The plan is to continue conducting the “Introduction to Community Engagement and Accountability” training sessions to equip all regions of Ukraine with the necessary knowledge to establish effective dialogue with beneficiaries and the broader community by the end of 2024.
The CEA approach recognises and values the views of all community members, ensuring that their diverse needs, priorities, and wishes guide our actions. Additionally, the CEA training sessions enhance the capacity of local Ukrainian Red Cross branches, promoting sustainable development and the effective integration of the principle of recognising communities as equal partners into the activities of the Ukrainian Red Cross nationwide.
