Hanna’s Story: A Beneficiary of the Ukrainian Red Cross Home-Based Care Programme

“My life motto has always been to rely solely on myself! But now, while I continue to cherish my independent approach, I have the additional support of Alla, without whom I can’t imagine my life,” says Hanna Tymofiivna, a beneficiary of the Home-Based Care programme in the Khmelnytskyi region.

In her nineties, Hanna Tymofiivna has always been proud of her self-sufficiency. She managed the household, her garden, and the work of a chief accountant on her own. However, age and health issues, such as pain in her fingers and joints, have made daily tasks more challenging now.

“I used to handle everything myself: shopping, cleaning, gardening… But these old bones are slowing me down.”

Hanna realised she needed assistance and turned to the Ukrainian Red Cross. Alla, her social assistant, now helps her with tasks she can no longer manage alone. While Hanna values her independence, she acknowledges the crucial support provided by the Ukrainian Red Cross.

“I don’t know how I would manage without Alla. She is young and energetic and has become a part of my life,” admits Hanna Tymofiivna.

The Home-Based Care programme in the Khmelnytskyi region operates with support from the Norwegian Red Cross.
