Since February 24, 2022, more than one million people in various parts of Ukraine have received primary healthcare from Ukrainian Red Cross mobile health units
Currently, 124 mobile health units of the Ukrainian Red Cross regularly visit the most remote areas where people have limited access to medical services.
The first mobile health units were established in 2015, initially operating in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions to provide primary healthcare to residents of the war-affected areas. With the onset of the full-scale invasion, many people were evacuated and found refuge in small towns and villages across the country. Moreover, many communities suffered from damaged or destroyed medical infrastructure. As a result, the demand for mobile health units has increased dramatically.
To ensure access to quality medical services, the operation of mobile health units has been rapidly expanded nationwide. In April 2022, these units made their first visits to the newly de-occupied Kyiv region.
Specialists from the mobile health units provide a range of medical services, including consultations, examinations, treatment prescriptions, hospital transports, and assistance at emergency response sites. Their primary objective is to deliver timely medical care in areas lacking medical facilities or where access to them is challenging.
Since February 24, 2022, more than a million people have received primary healthcare thanks to the specialists of mobile health units. This has entailed covering thousands of kilometres to reach even the most remote communities, ensuring over a million people have access to essential medical care promptly.
