Working Visit of the Ukrainian Red Cross Leadership to Japan
During the working visit to Japan, the leadership of the Ukrainian Red Cross held several meetings, including one with Mr. Hideki Kusakabe, Deputy Director General of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. They discussed the current humanitarian situation in Ukraine and the prospects for further support from the Government of Japan for Ukrainians.
Moreover, Maksym Dotsenko and Illya Kletskovskyy visited the Japanese Red Cross Nursing College. It is worth noting that the college was originally established as a nursing education program at the Japanese Red Cross Hospital and registered as a Nursing College in 1986. Today, the college offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs, including disaster nursing. In total, the Japanese Red Cross has six nursing colleges and one junior college in Japan. Maksym Dotsenko and Illya Kletskovskyy also visited the Japanese Red Cross Tokyo Metropolitan Chapter, where the staff members told them about their activities and main areas of work.
In addition, the leaders of the Ukrainian Red Cross visited a hospital in Hiroshima, where the hospital director informed them about the history of the relief efforts following the atomic bombing of the city and the health monitoring surveys conducted after the Chornobyl accident in 1986.
Currently, the Ukrainian Red Cross is learning from the experience of providing medical and rehabilitation services, aiming to implement similar activities in Ukraine. The Japanese Red Cross is an exemplary model for such efforts during wartime and postwar.
