International Children’s Day

International Children’s Day

International Children’s Day is an opportunity to remind about the rights of every child to live a full life in their country and their right to well-being.

Children, like adults, feel and experience changes in their lives related to the war in Ukraine. During this challenging time, the Ukrainian Red Cross, as an expert in mental health and psychosocial support, has already helped hundreds of thousands of the youngest residents feel supported and understand their own value in society. This includes providing emotional support to children who have left their homes, experienced life under occupation, and to those who constantly spend time in shelters or cannot imagine a childhood without air raids.

Almost all over Ukraine, from large cities to remote regions, children of all ages can seek help. Currently, there are 8 psychosocial support centres operating in large cities and more than 60 child-friendly spaces, totalling almost 390 locations across Ukraine. Volunteers and employees organise events for children from large families, children with disabilities, and children of veterans, as well as family events and events during emergency response or evacuations from dangerous regions of Ukraine.

By helping children in difficult situations, we contribute to their ability to reintegrate into everyday life, increase their resilience to difficulties, and prevent long-term negative psychosocial consequences. These efforts can positively impact their mental health following the war.

Today, the Ukrainian Red Cross mental health and psychosocial support activities are made possible through the support of 9 partners within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Additionally, governmental support plays a crucial role. Moreover, we collaborate with charitable foundations, schools, kindergartens, healthcare facilities, out-of-school educational institutions, sports clubs, and other organisations dedicated to assisting the youngest residents of Ukraine.
