Delegation of the Ukrainian Red Cross took part in the European Humanitarian Forum to speak about the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and call on the international community to support Ukrainians in this challenging time
The European Humanitarian Forum, organized by the European Commission with the assistance of Belgium, the country currently holding the presidency of the EU Council, has started in Brussels. The forum annually brings together all key stakeholders in the humanitarian sector. International and non-governmental organizations, government officials, and donors gather to find effective solutions to provide assistance in the world’s hottest spots.
For the third time in a row, since 2022, the issue of russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been raised. This year’s forum focused on health issues, namely the impact of the war on the healthcare system.
In his address, Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross, spoke about the enormous negative consequences of the war and called on the international community to increase assistance to Ukraine.
He emphasized the importance of supporting people living in the frontline areas and in remote settlements, where people are most in need of primary health care, physical and psychological rehabilitation, and care for disabilities. He also emphasized the importance of rebuilding medical infrastructure and called on donors to support physical and psychological rehabilitation and home-based care.
It is worth noting that since 2022, the Ukrainian Red Cross has provided medical services to more than 1.1 million people. These include mobile health unit consultations, psychosocial support, and home-based care.
