Ministers of Health of Ukraine and Denmark visit Ukrainian Red Cross Centre for Psychosocial Support

Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine, and Sophie Løhde, Minister of Health of Denmark, met with representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross at the Centre for Psychosocial Support for Children and Adults in Irpin. As part of the cooperation in the field of mental health and psychosocial support for Ukrainians, teams of representatives of the Ministry of Health of Denmark, the Danish National Hospital Rigshospitalet, the Embassy of Denmark, the Danish Red Cross, representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and representatives of the Rehabilitation and Support Department of the Ukrainian Red Cross discussed:

  • providing psychosocial support to the population;
  • integration of mental health and psychosocial support into the healthcare system and other emergency response services;
  • identifying the population categories most in need of such assistance, as well as mental and physical rehabilitation;
  • development of mental health and psychosocial support of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

In addition, as part of the visit, the participants attended creative arts classes for children and got acquainted with the activities of the Ukrainian Red Cross Mental Health and Psychosocial Support.

Since 24 February 2022, more than 600,000 people in Ukraine have received psychosocial support or first aid from the Ukrainian Red Cross. It is worth noting that Denmark and the Danish Red Cross actively support the development of mental health and psychosocial support in Ukraine. Together we have already managed to open eight Ukrainian Red Cross centres across the country. This is an important step to help people affected by the war in Ukraine and other vulnerable groups. Cooperation with the public sector is actively supported by the European Commission under the #EU4Health programme.
