PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT TRAINERS OF THE UKRAINIAN RED CROSS WERE TRAINED IN CHERNIVTSI

Volunteers of the psychosocial support department of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society do their best every day to provide assistance to people throughout the country. An important stage in the high-quality implementation of activities is the development of professional skills, namely, passing training on the correct provision of psychological first aid (PPD) and psychosocial support (PSP), which will allow trained volunteers to become trainers in the field of psychosocial support.

Such training for psychosocial support trainers took place in Chernivtsi from August 22 to 26. 18 volunteers were selected and trained as trainers. The participants learned about the training methodology, its structure and main features, facilitation techniques, and independently practiced the skills of conducting training modules. In the future, they will conduct training for employees and volunteers of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and representatives of other organizations that work with aid recipients.

Future trainers will conduct:

  • Trainings for the training of volunteers in the direction of PPS (psychosocial support in emergency situations, basic psychosocial support, psychological first aid, psychological first aid for children, etc.).
  • Psychological first aid trainings for employees and volunteers of other areas of activity of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, including for specialists of mobile teams, care at home, teams providing humanitarian aid.
  • Training on PPD for social services, teachers, employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and other organizations that can use this knowledge when working with aid recipients.

The participants studied with experienced master trainers, as well as trainers of the psychosocial support department of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and the Danish Red Cross. Thanks to the acquired skills, future trainers will be able to spread knowledge to the team of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and beyond the organization. This will make psychosocial support and psychological first aid more accessible to more people across Ukraine who need it!
