The Ukrainian Red Cross develops psychosocial support programmes with the support of international partners
Representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Danish Red Cross observed psychosocial support sessions for children, older people and other groups delivered by the Ukrainian Red Cross in Kyiv.
As a result of the full-scale war, more and more people in Ukraine need psychosocial support. Prolonged stress, loss, forced displacement and uncertainty affect the mental health and well-being of people of all ages. To help people cope with these challenges, the Ukrainian Red Cross runs psychosocial support programmes in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine, with support from international partners.
During the visit, the representatives of international organisations learned about the work of Ukrainian Red Cross specialists and volunteers, including individual consultations with a psychologist and group psychosocial support activities.
The delegation also observed sessions for children and older people, spoke with teams working with different groups every day, and learned about practical approaches to providing support.
Psychosocial support is an important area of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s work. It helps people cope with stress, regain emotional balance and find the resources they need to deal with difficult life circumstances.
Together with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Danish Red Cross, the Ukrainian Red Cross continues to develop mental health and psychosocial support services to make them more accessible to people affected by the consequences of the war.
