Farmers in Sumy region receive grain storage sleeves
The first 57 grain storage sleeves have been delivered to three agricultural enterprises in the Sumy region. They will provide temporary storage for almost 10,000 tonnes of grain.
Ongoing shelling is causing farmers in frontline regions to lose equipment and storage facilities, making it increasingly difficult to store their harvests. Grain storage sleeves offer a practical solution, allowing farmers to store grain without having to build additional storage facilities.
Under the programme, a total of 1,516 grain storage sleeves will be distributed to 257 agricultural producers in Sumy and Donetsk regions. The assistance will reach 48 communities across nine districts.
The programme is being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Mercy Corps and the Ukrainian Red Cross, with support from the U.S. Department of State and in close cooperation with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. The programme also receives support from the Government of Canada, the European Union and the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
This support aims to help agricultural producers in frontline areas preserve their harvests and keep their farms operating amid the war.
