As part of the SYLA project, “Strengthening Disaster Preparedness and Early Response Capacities of Local Actors,” the Ukrainian Red Cross conducted a three-day training for representatives of educational institutions
The training took place in Kyiv and brought together representatives from 21 territorial communities across the Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv regions. Over the course of three days, they received training in first aid, psychological first aid, and mine risk awareness.
During the training, participants learned to respond in emergencies, practised assisting injured people, explored the principles of psychological support in crisis situations, and strengthened their understanding of the risks posed by explosive hazards.
Particular attention was given to hands-on exercises, during which participants practised cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bleeding control, providing first aid for injuries, and other life-saving skills that may be critical in emergencies.
The knowledge and skills gained during the training will help strengthen the preparedness of educational institutions for emergencies and promote a stronger culture of safety within communities.
The SYLA project is implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross in partnership with the Danish Red Cross, the German Red Cross, ACTED, and IMPACT, with financial support from the European Union. The project aims to strengthen community capacity in emergency preparedness and early response.
