Veterans with partial or complete vision loss to receive up to UAH 95,000 in assistance from the Ukrainian Red Cross

The Ukrainian Red Cross continues to develop comprehensive support for veterans who have lost their sight as a result of the war. This work has led to the approval by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of the implementation procedure for a joint project between the Ukrainian Red Cross and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, aimed at supporting veterans who have fully or partially lost their vision while defending Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

As part of the programme development, the Ukrainian Red Cross team, together with veterans, conducted surveys and consultations to identify the real needs of people affected by vision loss. Based on the findings, a list of assistive devices and household solutions was developed to help make daily life more independent, safe, and comfortable. This list formed the basis of the programme and was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Through this programme, 345 veterans will be eligible to receive a one-time cash assistance from the Ukrainian Red Cross of up to UAH 95,000 to purchase necessary assistive devices and adapt their living environment according to their individual needs.

The programme will start on 1 July 2026 and includes 26 categories of assistive devices and household solutions to choose from. These are designed to help veterans regain independence in daily life, improve safety, and adapt more comfortably to new circumstances.

The payment will be provided regardless of other types of assistance received.

The project is the result of joint efforts by the government, the Ukrainian Red Cross, and veterans themselves, whose needs formed the foundation of the programme. The initiative is implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross with support from FCDO.
