On 1 February, the Russian Federation Struck Poltava: Ukrainian Red Cross Responds at the Scene of the Attack
Since early morning, the Ukrainian Red Cross team has been working at the site of a missile strike on a residential building.
A Ukrainian Red Cross tent was set up at the emergency site, where volunteers provided meals to first responders, critical infrastructure workers, and those affected. Volunteers also offered psychological first aid to the victims and, when necessary, provided first aid to the injured.
The Poltava regional emergency response team provided OSB boards and plastic sheeting to help people cover broken windows and protect their damaged homes from the cold and damp. In addition, the Poltava city branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross distributed blankets, bed linen, kitchenware, and warm clothing to all affected families.
Staff and volunteers from the Poltava regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross set up a shelter at a school for 20 people whose homes had been destroyed. They delivered mattresses, blankets, pillows, and bed linen to the shelter.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, 14 people were killed, including 3 children, and 20 were injured, including 4 children, as a result of the Russian strike on Poltava.
Emergency and rescue operations have now been completed.
