First aid is a set of essential measures aimed at preserving the life and health of the victim until qualified medical assistance can be provided. Today, it is crucial to be prepared to save lives.

In the context of martial law, having basic first aid skills is of utmost importance, especially at critical infrastructure facilities that are frequently targeted by heavy shelling and coordinated attacks. This knowledge can be life-saving for those who courageously work around the clock.

In 2024, specialists from the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), the Pumped-Storage Power Plant, the Dnipro HPP, the Middle Dnieper HPP, as well as the company’s management and medical staff, received both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in first aid from Ukrainian Red Cross instructors. Over 500 employees of Ukraine’s largest hydroelectric power generation company are now equipped to administer first aid, assist an unconscious person, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, stop bleeding, and help individuals with injuries or other emergencies.

“In light of the current challenges, such knowledge is not only useful but vital, as the dangers of war faced by Ukrainians can arise in the most unpredictable places,” Ukrhydroenergo posted on its website.

The training sessions included extensive practical work, enabling each participant to reinforce their knowledge and develop practical skills using the necessary materials and manikins. As a result, each participant received a certificate valid for three years, recognised in 191 countries.

This year, 16% of all Ukrhydroenergo employees completed first aid training, with additional training sessions already scheduled for 2025.
