11,000 people in eastern and southern Ukraine to receive assistance from the Ukrainian Red Cross with support from USAID

Since July 2024, the Ukrainian Red Cross has been implementing a multisectoral emergency response programme in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Odesa, and Kherson regions. Its goal is to address the key needs of individuals and help them cope with the challenges brought about by the war.

The programme includes:

  • Funding for winterisation support for the most vulnerable groups in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
  • Provision of hygiene and dignity kits.
  • Multipurpose cash assistance for citizens, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and individuals from the most vulnerable groups.
  • Provision of psychological counselling and support to those in need.
  • Marking dangerous areas with mine warning signs in cooperation with the State Emergency Service (SES).
  • Training for SES personnel and educators on first aid, mine risk awareness, and the prevention of gender-based violence. Participants in these training sessions will also receive first aid kits.
  • Training for Ukrainian Red Cross volunteers and staff on first aid, mine risk awareness, and the prevention of gender-based violence.

The multisectoral emergency response programme helps save lives and protect Ukrainian citizens in areas of active hostilities, while also supporting internally displaced persons and vulnerable groups, including women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

The programme is implemented with the support of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and USAID.
