Today, in Uzhhorod, a vehicle belonging to the Ukrainian Red Cross was deliberately set on fire
Fortunately, no one was injured. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at night at a service station where the vehicle was being repaired. The car had distinctive markings identifying it as part of a humanitarian mission.
This vehicle is more than just a means of transport; it is a vital tool for delivering humanitarian aid, supporting those in extremely difficult conditions due to the war, and saving lives. Each such vehicle represents hope for those affected by the war, for families who have lost their homes, and for those in urgent need of medical care.
We must recognise that such actions not only endanger property but also threaten the lives of people who rely on our assistance. We remain an independent organisation dedicated solely to helping those in difficult circumstances, regardless of their background or situation.
For reference:
The Ukrainian Red Cross is an organisation that operates exclusively in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government, in compliance with Ukrainian legislation and coordinates its activities with state and local authorities. We are part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, and each day, our employees and volunteers work tirelessly to assist those in greatest need.
According to its mandate, the Ukrainian Red Cross does not visit prisoners of war, as this responsibility falls to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) under the Geneva Conventions of 1949.
The Ukrainian Red Cross operates independently and is not subordinated to other organisations, including the ICRC, IFRC, or national societies from other countries.
