The Ukrainian Red Cross has provided over UAH 115 million in cash assistance to 1,216 veterans with visual impairments
With additional funding secured, the Ukrainian Red Cross has expanded its support programme more than threefold, enabling it to provide assistance to more veterans who partially or completely lost their sight while defending Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The assistance was provided through a joint project between the Ukrainian Red Cross and the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 674 of 27 May 2026.
Recipients can use the funds to purchase household appliances and assistive devices to help adapt their homes, make everyday tasks easier and increase their independence in daily life.
When the project was launched, the available funding was expected to cover 345 veterans. However, within the first few weeks of accepting applications, it became clear that demand significantly exceeded initial projections. Between 1 and 15 July alone, the Ukrainian Red Cross received more than 2,000 applications.
Applications were processed in the order in which they were received. Those submitted during the first week of the resolution’s implementation, from 1 to 7 July 2026, were processed first. Payments were made in the order in which applications were received, in accordance with paragraph 7 of the procedure approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 674 of 27 May 2026.
The Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine is working to extend the resolution’s validity period to enable further payments. The Ukrainian Red Cross will continue to seek additional funding to expand support for veterans who sustained serious injuries while defending Ukraine and need assistance in adapting their homes and daily routines to their needs.
